Part 2 – by Terri McInnis
In the May 2019 issue of our magazine, in my article titled, “Dinosaurs in the Garden of Eden?,” I explained that dinosaurs indeed lived with Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden and were also on Noah’s Ark.
We know that God told Noah that he was going to judge the Earth because of the wickedness of man and He was going to destroy the Earth with a Great Flood that would cover the entire globe. God chose two of every kind of animal and sent them to the ark, including the dinosaurs. Genesis 6:19-20 tells the story. “…Of fowls after their kind, and of cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the earth after his kind, two of every sort shall come unto thee, to keep them alive.”
I explained how dinosaurs could have fit onto the ark, but because we don’t see dinosaurs today, the question is, “what happened to them and where did they all go?”
Do we have biblical evidence that dinosaurs lived after Noah’s flood? Let’s take a look at the book of Job. We know that Job went through a time of testing and after Job was reminded by God of how great the Creator was, we read about how God describes a great animal that Job was familiar with.
Job, chapter 40, verses 15-24 tells us…
- Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox.
- Lo now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly.
- He moveth his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his stones are wrapped together.
- His bones are as strong pieces of brass; his bones are like bars of iron.
- He is the chief of the ways of God: he that made him can make his sword to approach unto him.
- Surely the mountains bring him forth food, where all the beasts of the field play.
- He lieth under the shady trees, in the covert of the reed, and fens.
- The shady trees cover him with their shadow; the willows of the brook compass him about.
- Behold, he drinketh up a river, and hasteth not: he trusteth that he can draw up Jordan into his mouth.
- He taketh it with his eyes: his nose pierceth through snares.
Notice in verse 17 this animal is described as having a tail like a cedar tree. Many believe that God was describing an elephant or a hippopotamus, but neither of those animals has a tail like a cedar tree. Only an enormous dinosaur would have a tail that large. It certainly makes sense from the description God gives in the Bible.
What does science tell us about the age of dinosaurs?
In 2005, and again in 2015, as reported in a scientific journal, a group of researchers, led by Dr. Mary Schweitzer, extracted pliable pieces of tissue from a T.rex fossil. What they found in this soft pliable tissue was red blood cells, collagen fibers, and blood vessels, not only inside the femur of one dinosaur bone, but several. The presence of this intact organic soft tissue in dinosaur bones is better explained by the bones being only thousands of years old, rather than millions of years old. According to secular scientists, proteins that make up soft tissue should degrade in less that one million years in the best of conditions, so with this recent discovery, how can they now claim that dinosaur fossils are 75 million years old. The evolutionary scientists have tried to explain this in every way they can think of, but they can’t without contradicting themselves. It is amazing how God is revealing the truth as taught in the Bible, using the scientist of today. Do you think maybe He is trying to tell them something? The Bible has all the answers, but we as Christians have to stop adding millions of years into the Bible, where it absolutely doesn’t belong.
Evolutionists once claimed that the fossil record, those of dinosaurs, were formed slowly as the animals died and were gradually covered by sediment. We learn from Institute for Creation Research (ICR), founded by Dr. Henry Morris, that fossils provide universal evidence of rapid burial, and even agonizing death. This rapid burial is necessary to entomb organisms as the first step in fossilization. Even some evolutionists now say that the fossil record formed quickly, yet they are quick to note that this occurred in spurts interspersed by millions of years. The fossil record is a result of the global flood in the days of Noah.
In 2010, a team of researchers unearthed an intact baby skeleton of a Chasmosaurus, and were amazed at what they found. They were digging in Dinosaur Provincial Park, located about a two-and-a-half hour drive east of Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
Archaeologist discovered that this juvenile dinosaur was 3 years old at the time of its death. There were no bite marks or injury from a predator found on this dinosaur fossil. They discovered that the fossil had been quickly buried under moist sediments. We know that sediment occurs by a process of weather, transported by the action of wind, water, or ice. The archaeologist determined that the baby Chasmosaurus most likely died from drowning and was quickly covered with sediment. This is exactly the evidence we see from the results of Noah’s Flood.
Many Christians, who believe in an old earth, of millions of years, hold steadfast to the belief that the dinosaurs perished before the creation of humanity and roamed the earth millions and millions of years before God created humans. They believe that for some unexplained reason, the dinosaurs died out before humankind was created, yet the Bible clearly says in Exodus 20:11 (KJV):
“For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is…”
The destruction of the Great Flood had devastating effects on the earth. It wasn’t just a few days of rain, as we see today. It totally changed the earth. Volcanoes erupted and earthquakes shook the land. The Grand Canyon was carved out. Everything and everyone was destroyed, except Noah and his family and the animals chosen by God to be on Noah’s Ark. It must have been a harsh world after the flood. By the time the waters had receded enough for Noah and his family and all the animals to leave the ark, plants had begun to grow on Earth, but there was probably not as much food as before the Flood, since the plants and trees had been destroyed. God knew that things would be different on Earth at this time, so he told Noah in Genesis 9:3, “Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things.” God told Noah that from that time on, people could eat animals for food. Remember, from the beginning of time, Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, and all the animals were told they could only eat plants for food. Yes, Genesis 1:29-31 tells us that mankind, and the animals were all vegetarians, up until Noah’s flood.
The relationship between man and animals changed after the flood. Animals would come to fear mankind. Genesis 9:2, “And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moveth upon the earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they delivered.”
In my research, I discovered that the great “Ice Age,” was a direct result of Noah’s flood. The question I had was, “How did Noah and his family survive if the whole earth was covered in ice”? For the answer, I turned to the expertise of Ken Ham, an Australian Christian, Young Earth creationist, and founder of the website, “Answers in Genesis,” along with the Ark Encounter park in Williamstown, Kentucky.
In his teachings, I discovered that the Flood of Genesis 6, occurred roughly 4300 years ago, and brought on one major Ice Age that lasted a few hundred years. I always thought that in the Ice Age, the earth was completely covered in ice, but I learned that was not the case. Ken Ham explained that after two centuries of research, enough information had begun to recreate the scenes from the rise and fall of the Ice Age. He explained that a massive ice sheet expanded over Canada, which drove out most living things, then continued to push south into the Ohio Valley. Eventually, the heavy snows stopped and the earth warmed.
So, how and when did the “Ice Age” occur? For that answer, I turned to retired meteorologist and Ice Age researcher, Mike Oard, from the film, Flood Geology, produced by Answers in Genesis.
The consequence of the process of the Flood was that an Ice Age began. The northern and southern areas of the Earth became covered in snow and ice. This would have lowered the ocean levels and formed land bridges between continents.
Mike explained that the ice on Greenland and in Antarctica, is in places miles deep and hundreds of miles wide. In the present, however, all but the edges of these ice sheets are cold deserts. Not enough snow and ice falls there to build up the depth of ice that we find today, even if long periods of time were available. In his scientific studies, he discovered that Noah’s flood provides the answer to what led to the Ice Age. During Noah’s flood, a lot of warm water was added to the oceans from the curst due to volcanic lava flows caused by Noah’s flood that heated the waters. Thick piles of lava, along with huge volumes of volcanic ash have been found in flood rocks.
Evidence in fossils suggests that the oceans were warmed up in the course of the flood. The average temperature of the ocean is 39 degrees Fahrenheit, but after the flood, it could have been as much as 86 degrees Fahrenheit. After the flood, the ocean started cooling down and that cooling was mainly by evaporation. The evaporation caused so much more water vapor in the air. As the oceans cooled after the flood, heavy snow began to fall. Computer simulations that begin with warm oceans show snow falling far inland over cool continents. Ice sheets built up thousands of feet thick, where we see evidence of such ice today. This ice built up in only a few centuries of time. The whole process was sped up by volcanic ash, cooling the earth after the flood. Because of the instability of the earth after the flood, and from the volcano eruptions, there were a lot of aerosols of dust and air pollutants in the air that floated in the stratosphere, a layer of earth’s atmosphere, for several years. These layer of aerosols caused the sunlight to be reflected back to space. This caused a cooling mechanism. When this happened, the ice from the snow built up and came to a peak, known as glacial maximum. Once the oceans cooled enough the evaporation slowed, and the snow stopped and the ice began to melt. Calculations suggest that the build-up of snow and ice, along with the movement, and melting of the snow and ice did not require many thousands of years that are traditionally taught. From a warm world at the end of the flood, to the melting of the ice, took only centuries of time. Mike says he sees evidence of one short ice age that melted catastrophically. The present climate is not the key to understanding what produced thick piles of ice in Greenland and Antarctica. It looks like the Bible had the answer all along, the great flood of Noah.
From a world map published in the April-June 2013 issue of Answers Magazine, the snow and ice-covered Canada, Greenland and the North Pole, half of North America, as far south as Cincinnati, Ohio, half of Europe and half of Asia. It also covered all of Antarctica, as well as the southern part of South America and a small southern portion of Australia.
Big Bone Lick State Park is located in Boone County, Kentucky. This park is considered the “birthplace of American paleontology,” a term which dates from the 1807 expedition by William Clark of “William and Clark” undertaken at the direction of President Thomas Jefferson. There, huge bones from mastodons, giant sloths, and other Ice Age creatures have been found.
During the Ice Age the earth’s landscapes, forests, and grasslands bore little resemblance to what we see today. The thick sheets of ice drew so much water out of the ocean, that large tracts of ocean floor became dry ground. Herds of animals wandered across a 1,000-mile-wide grassy plain that stretched from Asia across the Bering Strait to North America, and people actually lived in the lowlands between England and Europe.
We know that Noah took just a few thousand animals on board the Ark, including the dinosaurs. According to Answers in Genesis, among mammal families, it has been found that the families alive today represent only approximately 30% of the mammal families that ever existed. This means that around 70% of mammal families are now extinct. Many of the mammals that Noah brought on board the Ark have died. This is not extinction by virtue of burial in the Flood, but rather, it is extinction after the Flood.
The Bible tells us in Genesis 8:4, “And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat.”
Knowing that the Ark landed somewhere in the Middle East, how did all the animals, including the dinosaurs, spread out throughout the earth? We know that more kinds of dinosaur fossils have been discovered in the United States than in any other country in the world. As of 2010, dinosaur fossils have been found in 35 states.
It was God’s will that the earth be recolonized. Genesis 8: 15-17 (KJV)
- And God spake unto Noah, saying,
- Go forth of the ark, thou, and thy wife, and thy sons, and thy sons’ wives with thee.
- Bring forth with thee every living thing that is with thee, of all flesh, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth; that they may breed abundantly in the earth, and be fruitful, and multiply upon the earth.
Renowned chronologist, Archbishop James Ussher, placed the Creation of the earth at 4,004 B.C., the great Flood at 2,348 B.C., and the time of Babel at 2,242 B.C., 106 years after the Flood, when Peleg, the son of Eber, was born (Genesis 10:25). This date may not be exact, but it is in range because Peleg was in the fourth generation after the Flood. Prominent modern Bible theologian, John Whitcomb, reaffirm this date as well.
During this hundred-and-six-year period, Antarctica became covered in snow and ice. Forest grew on Antarctica and the Arctic before the ice began to form. Scientists have drilled down through Antarctica’s ice sheet and found, in sediment layers beneath the ice sheet fossils, evidence of a subtropical rainforest, complete with palm and macadamia trees. For these to grow, the land would have to be frost-free for a brief time after the Flood. Scientist have discovered that the world appeared to have been a pretty balmy place after Noah’s flood, until the Ice Age.
Remember that God picked the animals and sent them to the Ark. Genesis 6:19-20 tells the story. “…Of fowls after their kind, and of cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the earth after his kind, two of every sort shall come unto thee, to keep them alive.” Noah didn’t have to go in search of the animals, they came to the Ark by the commandment of God. You can feel sure that when they left the Ark, they knew what God intended them to do. Spread out throughout the earth and I believe God made it possible.
So, how does this timeline all fit together, when it comes to the dinosaurs?
After the Flood, Noah’s family had children, and they had children, and so the number of people increased upon the earth. As the earth became more populated, we know that man, once again, became corrupt and rebelled against God. Over time, the animals did as God commanded and went about to populate the earth, but the descendants of Noah did not obey the commandment of God to fill the earth. Instead of spreading out as God had commanded them to, they settled in the land of Shinar, a fertile land watered by the Tigris and Euphrates river. Genesis, chapter 11, tells us that once the people reached this plain in Babylon, they started a massive building project, known as the Tower of Babel.
The descendants of Noah had been disobedient to the call of God. As a result of this, God judged mankind once again and caused these people to be confused and speak several different languages. The people could no longer live and work together, so they spread out all over the earth. The people dispersed and most likely took some of their favorite animals with them, perhaps some even took dinosaurs.
Today, the English Channel separates the British Isles from the continent of Europe. But during the Ice Age, Britain was not an island. The ocean was so low that the shallow seafloor was dry land, known a Doggerland. This was an area of land, now submerged beneath the southern North Sea, that connected Great Britain to continental Europe. After the Tower of Babel when people began to spread out over the continents, some inhabited this area, until the melting ice flooded their homeland. People and animals could have walked across these land bridges as they spread out over the Earth.
So, just what happened to all the dinosaurs?
We know that the Ice Age started in the northern and southern parts of the earth, shortly after the flood. By the time of the Tower of Babel, the major Ice Age was well underway and lasted another 250 years, until around the time that Abram was born. We know that when Abram was 99 years of age, God declared Abram’s new name: “Abraham” – a father of many nations (Genesis 17:1-5).
The Great Flood of Noah’s day, created havoc upon the earth. There was competition between man and animals, not only for food, but for living space also. Famines, floods, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, diseases, and people killing animals for food or skins, also took their toll on many animals, including the dinosaurs. Many animals died out completely and hundreds of animals simply disappeared off the face of the Earth. The same reason that animals become extinct today is the same reason that dinosaurs died out, not millions of years, but only thousands of years ago.
Scientist today would have us believe that dinosaurs are millions of year old, only to be destroyed before the great “Ice Age.” It has been proven that secular scientist can’t measure the “Ice Cores” properly to estimate hundreds of thousands of years. It has also been proven, by the study of the volcanic eruption on Mount St. Helens in 1980, that canyons can be formed in days, not millions of years. The Bible clearly tells us that man was created on the same day and lived with dinosaurs. Dinosaurs could not have lived before man was created, because that would have brought death, before Adam sinned. God would not have said the Earth was “very good.”
We know why the secular world believes in the evolutionary theory. They teach our children that dinosaurs first evolved around 235 million years ago, long before man evolved and that no human being ever lived with the dinosaurs. But the most important question is, “Why do so many Christians believe this way when the Bible has all the answers if we will only seek out the truth?”
Christians who cling to the theories of millions of years, believing in the “Gap Theory,” the “Day-Age Theory,” and the “Ruin and Restoration Theory,” just to name a few, attempt to reconcile the secular belief in deep time (millions of years) with the biblical timescale of around 6,000 years. These theories do not stand up to scrutiny and have been thoroughly refuted by many scientists today. Many Christian leaders are quick to teach that great theologians of the past believed that there were millions of years between Genesis 1:1 and Genesis 1:2. Famous preachers today, still teach that theory because they have been heavily influenced by the evolutionary ideology of Charles Darwin (1809-1882). They attempt to preserve some level of regard for the Bible, yet deny that humans and dinosaurs co-inhabited the early earth. They solve the problem by manipulating the text of Genesis, so as to force it into the mold of evolutionary chronology, only to separate man and the “terrible lizards,” that the Bible speaks of, by millions of years.
Jesus Christ himself, who was the agent of creation (John 1:1-3), declared that humanity extended all the way back to “the beginning of creation (Mark 10:6), which leaves no room for a sixty-five-million year gap between the end of the dinosaur era and the commencement of mankind.
Theologians of the past and present, who believe that millions of years belong in the Bible, take the Hebrew language and dissect every word, to fit their narrative. Hebrew scholar, Harold G. Stigers, who wrote A Commentary on Genesis, in 1976, points out that the original terms are “capable of quite wide interpretation.”
It is a real tragedy, what so many in the Christian community today are teaching about the Creation of Genesis, by adding millions of years. The Bible warns us about this in the last days.
2 Timothy 4:3 (KJV): “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears.”
Matthew 24:24 (KJV): “For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if possible, they shall deceive the very elect.”
The Bible is the History Book of the Universe. It not only tells us the beginning, but reveals to us the end, and the glorious gift of salvation through Jesus Christ our Lord. Many Christians have been indoctrinated through a lifetime of education to believe in a secular way. But Proverbs 1:7 (KJV) tells us, “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.”
