President Trump announced that a “permanent” ceasefire in Syria has been reached with Turkey.
“I have, therefore, instructed the Secretary of the Treasury to lift all sanctions imposed October 14th in response to Turkey’s original offensive moves against the Kurds.”
President Trump then added, that if Turkey renews its military offensive then the USA has made clear that it can reinstate the economic sanctions.
After President Trump announced the pullout of the 50 US troops from Eastern Syria before the Turkish military offensive, there were two main points of contention against President Trump.
- That he left the Kurds to be massacred by the Turks
- That the USA should use more troops to stop the Turks
President Trump has shocked them all by achieving this “permanant” ceasefire which both secures the Kurds and without the loss of any US soldier’s life.
What is most refreshing is to hear that President Trump has a very realistic understanding of the region and all agreements made in the region. The President himself admitted that nothing is “permanent” in the Middle East.
